I am directed to state that it has been

already had ten months and twelve days, leaving a balance of

three and one fifth months, 4s this Government has no knowledge

of the amount of half pay leave earned by your resident service

under the Government of the Straits Settlements, and as the six

months grantable in excess of that allowable in respect of

resident service is usually granted by the Secretary of State for

the Colonies. His Excellency has decided to grant you the three months vacation for which you applied, with three months on half

salary, leaving you to anoly to the Secretary of State for such

extension as he may see fit to grant in the circunstances,

I am to add that the usual leave certificate

will be sent to you by Friday next.
